Latest Update: Ravens Sign Veteran Star To 53-Man Roster

Veteran star has been elevated to the gameday roster for the past two games and has proven to be an impactful addition. Pro Football Focus (PFF) reports that Ngakoue has recorded one sack, a quarterback hit, and two hurries over 16 pass rush snaps. His performance earned him an 80.3 pass-rush grade from PFF, ranking sixth over the past two games.

To officially sign Ngakoue to the active roster, the Ravens will need to make a corresponding move, as the team reached the 53-player limit after activating rookie running back Rasheen Ali from injured reserve on Saturday. The specific transaction—whether cutting or waiving a player, or placing someone on injured reserve—will be announced on Tuesday following the Monday, October 14 transaction release.

Ravens make intriguing Pro Bowler move to bolster defense

The Baltimore Ravens are riding high after their Week 6 victory over the Washington Commanders, but they remain focused on continuous improvement.

To bolster their defense, Baltimore has signed defensive end Yannick Ngakoue to their active roster, as reported by Adam Schefter of ESPN. Previously, Ngakoue was on the Ravens’ practice squad. He has already made an impact in two games this season, recording a tackle, two quarterback hits, and a sack. Ngakoue has earned a respectable 69.6 grade from Pro Football Focus, reflecting solid contributions given his limited snaps.

By securing Ngakoue on the active roster, the Ravens accomplish two goals. First, they reinforce their defensive line with a proven player. Secondly, they prevent other teams from potentially signing him away from their practice squad.

While Lamar Jackson and the offense have garnered attention, Baltimore’s defense has been a mixed bag. They currently rank 16th in total defense, allowing 334.7 yards per game. The Ravens have excelled in run defense, leading the league by surrendering only 59 yards per game. However, their pass defense has struggled, ranking 31st and allowing 275.7 yards per game.

Yannick Ngakoue may not be stepping in as quarterback, but his pass-rushing abilities could provide much-needed relief for Baltimore’s secondary. The Ravens clearly see potential in Ngakoue and believe he can contribute for the rest of the season.

This isn’t the first time Ngakoue has suited up for Baltimore. He previously played for the Ravens in 2020, a season that ended in a Divisional Round playoff loss. Now, with a 4-2 record heading into Week 7, the Ravens are aiming to push further this season. Having Ngakoue on board full-time strengthens their defense as they pursue their ambitious goals.
