The Green Bay Packers had high hopes for rookie running back to make a significant impact on their offense this season. However, due to an injury, he has spent most of the season on the sidelines and was eventually placed on injured reserve. His only appearance this year came in Week 2 against the Indianapolis Colts.
A third-round pick out of USC, was expected to fill the role of the Packers’ second running back behind Josh Jacobs. However, with Lloyd sidelined, Green Bay has had to rely on other options, especially after A.J. Dillon also suffered an injury before the season began. So far, Jacobs, along with Chris Brooks and Emanuel Wilson, have been the running backs to see game action for the Packers this season.
Green Bay Packers Running Back Marshawn Lloyd Returning To Practice This Week
The Packers won’t return to practice until Wednesday, but head coach Matt LaFleur held his usual Monday press conference, where Josh Jacobs also spoke with reporters. Jacobs mentioned that he regularly gives Lloyd a ride to practice, helping the rookie stay positive and focused despite his extended time on injured reserve.
Jacobs told Matt Schneidman of *The Athletic*, “I’m excited to see him go this week,” hinting at Lloyd’s upcoming return to practice. This week, Lloyd will be officially designated to return from the injured reserve list, and it remains to be seen if he’ll suit up for Sunday’s game against the Chicago Bears.
Week 2 Stats
In Week 2, Marshawn Lloyd managed 15 rushing yards on six carries, averaging 2.5 yards per attempt and finishing without a touchdown. As he nears his return from injured reserve, his potential role in the offense will be interesting to watch.
Lloyd had also been dealing with injuries during the preseason, which limited his opportunities early on. The Packers are hopeful that, with a fresh start, Lloyd can finally gain momentum and offer valuable support in the backfield alongside Josh Jacobs.
