The Pittsburgh Steelers improved to 7-2 on the season with an excellent 28-27 road win over the unexpected Washington Commanders, powered by talented rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels. One of Pittsburgh’s trade deadline transactions paid off immediately, as wide receiver Mike Williams scored a touchdown in his debut game with the team.
The former New York Jets wideout had no idea what to do on the 32-yard touchdown, but quarterback Russell Wilson offered some guidance. “He told me to go over there, so I kind of had an idea that the ball was going to be up,” Williams joked. “So, I ran the route and just checked the air and caught the ball.”
He continued, “It was just what we discussed on the sideline: ‘I want you to run this route.'” Calvin headed outside. He was running that route all week. He ran it early in the game, but it was for him, and he was eliminated.” Unfortunately, the Steelers didn’t have everything going their way on Sunday.
Star pass rusher Alex Highsmith seemed to severely roll his ankle late in the fourth quarter while attempting to pressure Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels. He was finally carried off the field due to the injury and was subsequently seen in the locker room on crutches, according to Steelers beat writer Chris Adamski.
Highsmith’s injury comes at a difficult time for the Steelers, who play AFC North rival Baltimore next weekend. Defending the Ravens and standout quarterback Lamar Jackson without a quality pass rusher and run defender is not an ideal situation for Pittsburgh.
