In recent weeks, injuries have been mounting for the Virginia Tech football team. During last weekend’s game against Syracuse, they were missing two key offensive players—quarterback Kyron Drones and running back Bhayshul Tuten—and lost cornerback Mansoor Delane during the match.
At the press conference ahead of this week’s home game against Clemson, head coach Brent Pry was cautious about the availability of these players, listing Tuten, Delane, and Drones as questionable for the ACC matchup. However, Pry sounded more hopeful, suggesting there’s a good chance all three might be in the lineup.
Brent Pry gives encouraging injury update ahead of Clemson battle
David Cunningham of Tech Sideline reported that Drones, Tuten, and Delane were moving well during Wednesday’s practice. After practice, Coach Brent Pry provided a promising update to the media.
“I think all three of them have a good chance [to play Saturday vs. Clemson] after yesterday and today,” Pry said.
Getting these players back would be a huge boost for the Hokies, especially Drones and Tuten on offense. While Collin Schlee, Malachi Thomas, and Jeremiah Coney stepped up admirably in Drones’ and Tuten’s absence and played well enough to secure a win against Syracuse, a defensive collapse in the second half cost them the game.
As is common this late in the season, teams are dealing with injuries, but having these three return for the Clemson game would be a major lift for Virginia Tech. They need just one more win to become bowl-eligible, and a healthier lineup could make a big difference in achieving that goal on Saturday.
