Breaking: Unforeseen Hitches As Red Wings Loses Another Top Star To A Devastating Injury

The Detroit Red Wings shared on social media that defenseman exited their last game against the Pittsburgh Penguins due to an upper-body injury and would not be returning.

During the second quarter, he left the game and did not come back. The manner in which he was hurt was unknown.

The Red Wings would drop their game on Thursday, 6-3.

In August 2023, the Red Wings acquired Ann Arbor, Michigan native him from the Montreal Canadiens in exchange for Gustav Lindstrom and a conditional fourth-round selection. Throughout 73 regular-season games last season, he averaged 18:48 of ice time and finished with three goals and 21 assists for a total of 24 points.

He is about to begin his 15th NHL season, has played in 937 regular-season games with the Red Wings, Canadiens, Penguins, and Edmonton Oilers. He has scored 95 goals and provided 282 assists for 377 points while averaging 21:58 of ice time.

Petry, who was selected by the Oilers in the second round of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft, attended Michigan State University for three seasons, from 2007–08 to 2009–10. He would play for the Edmonton Oilers for the next five seasons after agreeing to an entry-level contract, contributing 17 goals and 57 assists for 74 points in 295 regular-season games.

Petry was dealt to the Canadiens for a second-round pick and a conditional fifth-round pick during the regular season of 2014–15. After the season, he would ink a six-year contract extension with the team. In September 2020, he would ink a second, four-year, $25 million contract extension.

With Montreal in 2018–19, he had his greatest statistical season with 13 goals and 33 assists for 46 points while averaging 23:07 of ice time.

He was dealt to the Penguins in July 2022 for Mike Matheson and a 2023 fourth-round selection, along with Ryan Poehling.
