Just In: Giants to Land Blockbuster Trade For Top Free Agent QB to Replace Daniel Jones

The New York Giants may have considered moving on from Daniel Jones before the NFL trade deadline if they saw value in a replacement, but their search for a new quarterback is expected to intensify during the offseason. The key question is how they will approach this task. While the 2025 quarterback draft class has some talent, it lacks the depth and top-end prospects of the 2024 class, with many of these players potentially falling to the latter part of the first round or even the second round. With numerous teams likely to be in the market for a quarterback next April, the Giants and possibly other teams may explore free agency to find a solution.

Among the potential free agents, Sam Darnold, currently with the Minnesota Vikings, stands out. Ranked as the top free agent quarterback for next year by Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report, Darnold has revitalized his career with Minnesota, leading them to a 6-2 record. Knox highlighted the Giants as one of the top fits for the 27-year-old former No. 3 overall pick, emphasizing that Darnold would thrive in an offense inspired by the Kyle Shanahan or Sean McVay system. While Tennessee, under head coach Brian Callahan, might be a more natural fit for Darnold, Knox noted that the Giants, led by Brian Daboll, would explore every option if they decide to move on from Jones.

Currently, the Giants are among nine teams with just two wins through Week 9 and would hold the No. 7 overall pick if the draft were today. If New York is intrigued by Darnold’s upside, they could address another critical need through the draft while acquiring Darnold as a free agent, potentially maximizing their offseason strategy.
