The Buffalo Bills extended their lead in the AFC East to 7-2 after a tight 30-27 victory over the Miami Dolphins, highlighted by a clutch 61-yard game-winning field goal from kicker Tyler Bass. This victory marks Buffalo’s fourth straight win, strengthening their division lead over the 3-6 New York Jets. In preparation for the second half of the season, the Bills have added wide receiver Amari Cooper and defensive tackle Quinton Jefferson from Cleveland, while also activating key players like Von Miller and Jalen Virgil, demonstrating their intent for a strong playoff push. Bass’s 61-yard game-winner against Miami earned him the AFC Special Teams Player of the Week award for the first time in his career.
He joins an elite group of only nine kickers in NFL history to hit a game-winning field goal from 60 or more yards in the final minutes of regulation or overtime. Head coach Sean McDermott awarded Bass the game ball, and quarterback Josh Allen praised him emotionally in the locker room. Bass has established himself as a dependable finisher, converting 9-for-9 field goals in the final minute of regulation or overtime, including five game-winners.
Looking ahead, the Bills will take on the Indianapolis Colts in Week 10, a team that recently benched rookie quarterback Anthony Richardson in favor of veteran Joe Flacco. The Colts are also contending with center Ryan Kelly’s absence due to injury and have added safety Darren Hall.
Buffalo’s defense, known for its adaptability, plans to take advantage of these changes by pressuring Flacco and disrupting the Colts’ offense. As the Bills continue to build depth and flexibility, they aim to solidify their grip on the division title and strengthen their playoff positioning with a potential win over the Colts.
