On Tuesday, head coach Brent Pry provided injury updates that were less than optimistic as Virginia Tech prepares to face Clemson on Saturday. The Hokies are gradually seeing an increase in injuries across the team. Earlier in the season, Iowa Western Community College transfer Kemari Copeland suffered a season-ending injury, and now other key players are dealing with setbacks.
In their recent game against Syracuse, quarterback Kyron Drones was unexpectedly ruled out just before kickoff, while running back Bhayshul Tuten suited up for the first half but didn’t see any action. Adding to the challenges, backup QB Collin Schlee sustained an injury during a fourth-quarter drive, which appeared to hinder his mobility as the game went into overtime.
Speaking to the media on Tuesday ahead of Virginia Tech’s matchup with Clemson at Lane Stadium, Pry acknowledged multiple injury concerns as the Hokies strive to secure bowl eligibility with a win against the Tigers.
Virginia Tech injuries mounting
- Kyron Drones (QB): Questionable
- Bhayshul Tuten (WR): Questionable
- Mansoor Delane (CB): Questionable
On a positive note, Coach Brent Pry shared that quarterback Collin Schlee has been cleared to practice without restrictions this week after sustaining a minor injury against Syracuse. However, the outlook for other injured players remains uncertain.
Pry noted that quarterback Kyron Drones is in better shape than he was a week ago, though running back Bhayshul Tuten’s condition has seen little improvement since he hurt his ankle against Georgia Tech on October 26. Pry expects more clarity in the coming days, but the current injury updates aren’t reassuring, especially as Virginia Tech faces a Clemson team fresh off its first ACC loss to Louisville and likely eager to bounce back in Blacksburg.
Schlee delivered a strong performance against Syracuse and, if not for the defense’s struggles in the second half, might have led the Hokies to victory. Both Malachi Thomas and Jeremiah Coney contributed effectively in the running game. However, Clemson’s defense will present a tougher challenge than Syracuse’s, and with Virginia Tech increasingly affected by key injuries, this matchup looks to be an even taller order.
