RJ Barrett, a former Duke basketball standout, is setting career-high averages and catching fire from beyond the arc.
After missing the Toronto Raptors’ first three regular season games while recovering from a training camp shoulder injury, 2018-19 Duke basketball prodigy and sixth-year player RJ Barrett has swiftly warmed up.
The 24-year-old Toronto native, who is in his second season with the Raptors after being traded from the New York Knicks in late December, scored 20 points in his season debut on Monday night.
Barrett has now gone on to score more than 30 points in all three games.
RJ Barrett put up impressive numbers over three recent games: scoring 31 points in a road loss to the Charlotte Hornets on Wednesday, 33 points in a home loss to the Los Angeles Lakers on Friday, and 31 points in a thrilling 131-128 home overtime win against the Sacramento Kings on Saturday.
Though it’s still early in the season, Barrett, the No. 3 overall pick in the 2019 draft, is averaging a career-high 28.8 points per game. Barrett initially gained national attention as a consensus All-American at Duke, where he averaged 22.6 points per game alongside Zion Williamson and Cam Reddish. This season, he’s shooting 49.4% from the field, a career-best 46.2% from three, and is also averaging 5.8 rebounds and a career-high 7.3 assists.
Next, Toronto (2-5) will face a Monday night road game against the Denver Nuggets (3-3).
