JUST IN: Bruins Receives Unexpected Update on Swayman Before Season Opener

Boston Bruins head coach Jim Montgomery has indicated that goaltender Jeremy Swayman might start in tonight’s season opener against the Florida Panthers. This possibility comes as a bit of a surprise to many insiders, as it was initially expected that the team would give Swayman more time to prepare, especially after recently signing him to an eight-year contract extension.

When asked about the situation, Montgomery said, “He’s a potential goalie tomorrow night. We’re undecided.” This leaves the door open for Swayman to possibly take the net, though the final decision is still pending.

Jeremy Swayman recently inked an eight-year contract with an average annual value of $8.25 million. His absence from training camp and the preseason was due to ongoing negotiations with management, which saw some public contention. However, both sides have resolved their differences, and Swayman is now set to contribute as the Bruins gear up for the 2024-25 season opener.

Boston Bruins head coach Jim Montgomery indicated that goaltender Jeremy Swayman is “a possibility” to start in the season opener against the Florida Panthers. This comes as a bit of a surprise, considering Swayman had recently signed an eight-year contract extension worth an average annual value of $8.25 million and had missed the preseason while resolving issues with management.

Swayman expressed his excitement about returning, stating, “Great to be back. It’s a breath of fresh air…I feel ready to play… great training over at BU during this training camp. I feel like I put myself in a really good position.” When asked about the possibility of starting on Tuesday, he emphasized his trust in the coaching staff, saying, “If they feel like I’m ready, they know I am.” Montgomery noted that they are still undecided about Swayman’s status for the opener, leaving fans eagerly awaiting the final decision. He added that he would love to play.

If Swayman Is Ready, Why Not?

Why not play Swayman if he is the guy—which he is? He is the starting center for the Bruins, who just made a large financial commitment to him. Joonas Korpisalo and Swayman make up a strong pair for Boston, but Swayman will bear the majority of the season’s workload, and he welcomes it.

Not to mention, the Bruins were eliminated from postseason contention by the Florida Panthers, with whom they have a fierce rivalry. This is the game that Swayman will get up for, if he gets up for any.
