BREAKING: Two Braves Set for Unexpected Departure Including Team’s Most Productive Hitter

The Atlanta Braves face an intriguing offseason, as they look to improve a roster that still boasts one of the most dynamic young cores in baseball when healthy. However, after three consecutive early postseason exits, general manager Alex Anthopoulos might be open to making significant changes.

Anthopoulos, known for his willingness to pursue blockbuster trades, is expected to explore options to enhance the roster. Two players who could potentially be on the move are Marcell Ozuna and Jorge Soler. While Anthopoulos has indicated that the Braves plan to exercise Ozuna’s $16 million option for 2025, that doesn’t necessarily guarantee he’ll stay in Atlanta; a trade remains possible if the right deal arises.

However, Ozuna has been one of the team’s most productive hitters over the past two seasons, with 79 homers and over 200 RBIs, and he is well-regarded in the clubhouse. This could make the Braves reconsider Soler’s role. Though Soler provided valuable offensive power, he struggled defensively, accumulating -7 outs above average in just 49 games. Given his defensive limitations, he’s best suited as a designated hitter—a role that’s already filled by Ozuna.

This situation is further complicated by Ronald Acuña Jr.’s potential need for more time as a designated hitter, following his second ACL injury in four years. This could lead to the Braves choosing to part ways with both Ozuna and Soler to free up resources and make room for roster flexibility. All things considered, there may be a greater likelihood of both players being moved than them both staying with the team next season.
