Kyle Filipowski, a recent two-year Duke basketball star, scored his first NBA regular season points on Tuesday night, totaling 12 in 25 minutes off the Utah Jazz bench. He also had eight rebounds, two assists, and one steal in the 113-96 home loss to the Sacramento Kings.
And, with 7-foot Jazz center Lauri Markkanen sidelined with a back injury on Thursday night, Filipowski’s impressive performance in his previous appearance earned him his first professional start.
Utah went to 0-5 with a 106-88 home loss to Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs, whose lone NBA Blue Devil, guard Tre Jones, is still out due to a right ankle sprain. Nonetheless, Kyle Filipowski’s results were impressive, especially given that he did not hear his name until the second round of the 2024 NBA Draft.
Filipowski scored another 12 points against the Spurs, going 5-for-8 from the floor and 2-for-4 from beyond the arc. In addition, he collected five boards and delivered one dime in just 20 minutes on the court.
Filipowski, a two-time All-ACC standout under Duke basketball head coach Jon Scheyer, has averaged 6.0 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 1.3 assists in four Jazz games. In 13.6 minutes a game, he shoots 52.6 percent from the field and 40.0 percent from beyond the arc.
