The No. 57 overall recruit in the 2025 class, has decommitted from Virginia. The 5-foot-9, 170-pound point guard from Charlottesville initially committed to the Cavaliers on September 20th, making him their first pledge in the rising senior class. He now reopens his recruitment, having previously considered schools like Clemson, Miami, Tennessee, Villanova, and Virginia Tech.
Chance Mallory stands out as one of the top point guards still available in the 2025 class.
Adam Finkelstein, 247Sports director of scouting, describes Mallory as a reliable and highly skilled point guard, despite his size. Mallory exhibits elite ball control and a precise jump shot, with deep shooting range both off the dribble and on the catch. His quick release compensates for his smaller stature, allowing him to excel with mid-range pull-ups and a versatile array of floaters and runners in tight spaces. His impressive 45/38/90 shooting splits in the UAA further highlight his consistency.
Mallory is also a solid ball-handler, seldom affected by defensive pressure, and an efficient passer (4.2 assists to 1.7 turnovers). He’s showcasing increased creativity and playmaking ability without sacrificing his efficiency.
On defense, Mallory is diligent, guarding full-court, fighting through screens, and accumulating steals (1.6 per game in 2024 UAA, 2.1 in 2023) while helping on the boards. While his size may present challenges at the next level, his effort and understanding of the game make him effective.
Beyond his physical skills, Mallory is valued for his intangibles and leadership. He embodies a traditional, skilled point guard mentality, coupled with strong character and determination—traits that more than compensate for any physical limitations.
