Just In: Virginia Tech Football to Land Commitment For Big Ten Wide Receiver

This weekend, the Hokies football team will host a Big Ten wide receiver transfer against the Yellow Jackets.
This weekend is a big one in Blacksburg for the Virginia Tech football team. The Hokies will host Georgia Tech for Homecoming, and several important recruits will be on campus as well.

While the majority of the recruits will be from high schools, one Big Ten player is already in the transfer portal for the 2025 season.

McCulley entered the transfer portal in late September after his third game of the season with Indiana. This season, in very limited action, he had two catches for 21 yards, but last season, he made a big impact for the Hoosiers with 644 receiving yards on 48 receptions and six touchdowns as Indiana went 3-9.

According to Adam Friedman of Rivals.com, McCulley had planned a trip to Michigan this weekend to watch the Wolverines play Michigan State, but it was postponed so he could be in Blacksburg to watch the Hokies face the Yellow Jackets.

What does this imply for the future? Virginia Tech will lose some significant players from the wide receiver position after the season ends. Ayden Greene and several younger receivers are eligible to return, but bringing in a veteran would be important for offensive coordinator Tyler Bowen and head coach Brent Pry in 2025.

McCulley has been in the transfer portal before, entering on Nov. 27 and withdrawing two weeks later to return to Indiana, but it’s evident he’s dropped down the depth chart under first-year coach Curt Cignetti.

If there was one area where Pry and his crew were able to have an impact, it was wide receiver in the portal, which would be a significant addition for next season.
