With a 1-6 record and an awful failure at quarterback, the Carolina Panthers are heading nowhere fast. Making a deal before November 5 makes sense, especially since they have a running back to offer. However, according to David Newton of ESPN.com, the Panthers will not move one running back.
“Who might be on the move?” Newton wrote: “Miles Sanders.” “Coach Dave Canales has stated that he does not envision Carolina trading (Dionte) Johnson, despite the fact that he is eligible for unrestricted free agency this offseason. That might change if the losses continue and the right offer comes up, but that does not appear likely.
A source close to the situation told ESPN that (Chuba) Hubbard will not be dealt, despite the fact that (Jonathan) Brooks will be ready to play soon. That leaves Sanders with two years remaining on his deal (though Carolina has an out in 2025). He’s a proven back who can aid a struggling squad.”
Panthers RB Chuba Hubbard is proving too valuable to move.
In the NFL, production is more essential than style points for either the individual or the team. And Hubbard, a fourth-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, has produced. Over four weeks, he carried for 92 yards or more, with two 100-yard runs.
Things slowed down last week, when he gained 52 yards on 17 carries. However, the Panthers fell behind quickly against the Commanders, and the running game became an afterthought. Hubbard also had five receptions for 55 yards and a touchdown in a 36-22 victory over the Raiders in Week 3.
So, even though Brooks is moving closer to making his rookie debut, the Panthers like what they have in Hubbard. Canales stated that trade choices will not be taken until they have adequate information regarding what they have at Brooks.
“We just gotta get Jonathon out there, see where he’s at,” Canales told the crowd. Take a close look at him playing football, moving about with confidence, and then we’ll make those decisions.”
Canales stated that Hubbard’s value extends beyond statistics.
“It’s just the way that he comes to work every day with the focus and mentality to get better,” Canales told me. “He absolutely embodies the spirit that I admire and hope we can all achieve as a group. And he improves every day in practice, game after game, in the many ways he presses, runs, picks up protection, and executes certain routes. He’s always striving to be his best, and that’s the kind of leadership we need.”
What does Sanders have to offer?
According to apnews.com, Canales appeared to be overly optimistic about Sanders before the season began.
“He has looked fantastic,” Canales added. “He came into camp with a laser-like focus and a serious approach to his work. “And he is emerging as a leader.”
Sanders appeared to be ready to put his catastrophic 2023 season behind him. The once-coveted Sanders, a second-round choice in the 2019 NFL Draft, has been a non-factor on a terrible club.
