Just In: LSU Football Star Suffer Another Major Injury Concern

LSU Safety will miss the game against Texas A&M because he’s battling a case of turf toe, coach Brian Kelly said Thursday.

Allen missed LSU’s Sept. 14 game over South Carolina with a similar ailment.

“Those injuries,” he said, “we’re talking about something that just is time, especially at the safety position.”

Allen, a redshirt sophomore from Lafayette, started LSU’s season-opening loss to Southern Cal but saw his snap count drop as the year progressed. He was on the field for only six plays of the No. 8 Tigers’ Oct. 12 win over Ole Miss, per Pro Football Focus, and he did not travel with the team to its road win over Arkansas the following week.

In 2022, Allen joined LSU as a three-star recruit, based on the 247Sports composite rankings. He was rated among the top 40 safety prospects in his class and was one of the top 20 players in Louisiana.

After redshirting his freshman year, he saw limited playing time as a sophomore.

This season, before being moved down the depth chart, Allen recorded a pass breakup and 14 tackles, including six in the loss to USC.

For the Tigers’ win over Arkansas, they opted to start redshirt junior Sage Ryan and Texas A&M transfer Jardin Gilbert at safety. Both are expected to start again in the upcoming road game against No. 14 Texas A&M at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, airing on ABC.
