The struggling 1-5 Tennessee Titans are fully in rebuild mode. Following the trade of DeAndre Hopkins to the Kansas City Chiefs, general manager Ran Carthon has made another move. The Titans are sending linebacker to the Seattle Seahawks in exchange for a fourth-round pick and linebacker, according to various reports.
The Titans received a fifth-round pick for DeAndre Hopkins from Kansas City, which could elevate to a fourth-rounder based on certain conditions—a deal that set social media abuzz. If those incentives are met, general manager Ran Carthon will have secured two additional fourth-round picks in the 2025 NFL Draft within hours. This is particularly significant since the Titans currently lack a third-round pick due to the L’Jarius Sneed trade.
Jones was acquired from the Los Angeles Rams in August, with the Titans trading Day Three picks in the 2026 NFL Draft. Carthon deserves praise for obtaining much more in return for Jones than what he gave up less than three months ago, showcasing savvy management during the rebuilding process.
This season, Jones has excelled for the Titans, ranking second on the team with 44 tackles at the time of his trade, along with three tackles for loss and two pass breakups.
Although Jones was on an expiring contract, making it logical for the Titans to consider re-signing him given his performance, Carthon opted to take advantage of the opportunity to secure a fourth-round pick and a veteran replacement instead. The Titans can always look to re-sign him in free agency.
With Jones gone, younger linebackers will now have the chance to compete for playing time alongside starter Kenneth Murray. Third-year player Jack Gibbens could step in immediately, but there are also other promising options. Fourth-round rookie Cedric Gray is nearing his debut after starting the season on IR, and seventh-round linebacker James Williams is another intriguing prospect who could earn a spot in the rotation.
Jerome Baker, a seventh-year pro, has recorded 23.5 career sacks and five interceptions. He has faced recurring injuries in recent years and has made 37 tackles for the Seahawks this season. Like Jones, Baker is also on an expiring contract, giving the Titans 11 games to evaluate whether he’s worth re-signing in the offseason.
