“I wasn’t sure where my career was at,” the Quebec native admitted. “I thought that might be it for me. Not only was hockey physically demanding, but so was life. Life at home wasn’t really enjoyable. So I went through the process and ended up having surgery in January.”

Finally, there was no room for the seasoned Chiasson. Barring injuries, the roster is nearly complete.

It’s unclear whether Chiasson will retire and try to find work with another NHL team.

In another move, the Red Wings returned signed draft pick Emmitt Finnie to the Kamloops Blazers of the Western Hockey League. At 19, he couldn’t be assigned to the Grand Rapids Griffins. Finnie was selected in the seventh round of the 2023 draft.

The Red Wings still have 55 players on their training camp roster for Thursday’s game against the Maple Leafs at Little Caesars. The roster still includes 31 forwards, 16 defensemen, and eight goaltenders.
