Injury Update: Starting QB to miss Hokies vs. Georgia Tech on Saturday

The Virginia Tech Hokies (4-3, 2-1) will play at home for the second straight week on Saturday against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (5-3, 3-2). It’s homecoming in Blacksburg.

The Yellow Jackets will be without starting quarterback Haynes King for the second straight game, according to 247Sports. King is battling with an upper-body injury. He had previously started the first seven games of the season for Georgia Tech.

So, when you face a backup, it’s good news, right? Perhaps not so for the Hokies.

The Jackets will start 6-foot-3, 220-pound redshirt sophomore Zach Pyron against the Hokies. This would be Pyron’s fourth career start. As a true freshman, he made his first career start against Virginia Tech in 2022. Pyron completed 19 of 32 throws for 253 yards, one touchdown, and an interception. He also carried for 66 yards and a touchdown, helping the Yellow Jackets overcome a deficit and win. Turnovers contributed to VT’s doom on that day.

Pyron’s dual-threat capabilities could pose a challenge for the Virginia Tech defense. However, the Hokies’ defense has performed admirably over the last two games.
