Micah Shrewsberry’s strong streak on the recruiting trail continues, as he signs Tommy Ahneman, another four-star recruit.
This is the week of the Irish! Micah Shrewsberry and his crew are on a recruiting hot run beyond anything the Notre Dame program has ever seen.
After gaining three four-star commitments in seven days, Shrewsberry & Co. has done it again, adding Tommy Ahneman, the No. 106 overall recruit, to their 2025 recruiting class.
On Monday, the 6-foot-10, 235-pound big man told 247Sports that he chose Notre Dame over Minnesota, Nebraska, Iowa, and others.
“Honestly the culture, the players, the coaching staff, Shrewsberry is an amazing coach,” Ahneman stated when asked why he chose Notre Dame. “I couldn’t believe how much I learned being at practice and then the players were even saying that every day they basically just learn something from ‘Shrews’ whether it’s about life or about basketball so that was a big reason why.”
“Then another reason was just the chance to be able to be a part of one of the best recruiting classes they have ever brought in,” she said. “It’s just a selling point there and they’re obviously in the ACC so it’s an opportunity to play against the best.”
With the arrival of Ahneman, Notre Dame has solidified its position atop the 247Sports Recruiting Class rankings.
Cretin Derham Hall, a gifted and cerebral big man from Saint Paul (Minn.), explained why Shrewsberry and his program are appealing to some of the greatest players in the country.
“It’s Notre Dame, just the culture there,” he told me. “It’s so anchored in having a good team and sharing the ball; it’s as if everything they do is the greatest, and they have the best facilities. They now have one of the country’s greatest coaches. Everything they do is to be the best, and this is where I can improve, become the greatest, and potentially even go to the next level.
Ahneman will join Kebba Njie in the Irish frontcourt next season, bringing a unique set of offensive tools.
“I feel like I am going to bring a big rebounding presence, a lob threat, a guy who can step out and shoot the ball if need be,” he told me. “I’m going to play strong defense. I’m going to push the tempo, try to be the best teammate, pass, and make the best judgments. I am just going to do everything the correct way, and whether or not I score, as long as we win, I will be satisfied, and I believe that is what Notre Dame is all about.”
Ahneman will join five-star forward Jalen Haralson and four-star forwards Ryder Frost and Brady Koehler.
