The Houston Astros are still holding out hope that top star will decide to return to H-Town. However, as he remains a free agent, the Astros made a low-key move —their first transaction in February.
The team announced on X (formerly known as Twitter) that they’ve re-signed outfielder, who previously played for the Milwaukee Brewers. According to a source cited by MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand, top stars deal with the Houston Astros is worth $1.2 million. The contract includes a $200,000 signing bonus, while the remaining $1 million is non-guaranteed and will only be earned if Gamel makes the team out of Spring Training.
Gamel returning to Houston
Ben Gamel played for both the New York Mets and the Houston Astros during the 2024 MLB season. After being released by the Mets, he was picked up by the Astros but couldn’t finish the season due to a left fibula fracture sustained in a September game against the Los Angeles Angels.
In 38 games in 2024—20 of them with the Astros—Gamel posted a .247/.384/.333 slash line, hitting one home run and driving in four RBIs across 99 plate appearances.
Throughout his MLB career, Gamel has also suited up for the Seattle Mariners, Pittsburgh Pirates, Cleveland Guardians, New York Yankees, and San Diego Padres, in addition to his time with the Astros, Mets, and Brewers.
