Injury Update: Braves Battles With Another Mind Blowing Injury

The Atlanta Braves are aiming to secure a postseason berth, but they haven’t quite lived up to expectations this season. One major factor has been the absence of Ronald Acuña Jr., who was sidelined for the year in May after tearing his ACL. Acuña provided an update on his recovery Thursday, as reported by Mark Bowman of MLB.com.

“I think I’ll need to be patient,” Acuña stated. “We’re going to focus on my hitting, fielding, and anything I can do to help the team win. As for running and stealing bases, I’m not sure I’ll be able to swipe 40 or 50 bags as easily. That’s something we’ll have to see. I’m unsure how that will go.”

He also discussed his potential participation in spring training for 2025, saying, “If I’m feeling good, everyone knows I’ll want to play and be out there. But ultimately, it depends on how I’m feeling.”

Acuña is one of baseball’s top talents when healthy, and the Braves are significantly stronger with him on the field. In 2023, he won the National League MVP, posting a stellar .337/.416/.596/1.012 slash line, along with 41 home runs and 73 stolen bases. The Braves are hopeful he can make a full recovery and remain healthy for the 2025 season.

The Braves are aiming for a 2024 World Series run, but their immediate focus is securing a postseason berth. As of now, Atlanta is just one game behind the final National League Wild Card spot, trailing both the Arizona Diamondbacks and New York Mets. Meanwhile, the San Diego Padres have already locked in the top NL Wild Card position.
