Injury Update: Cowboys In Disarray Parsons Return Proves Uncertainty

Micah Parsons is set to have an MRI on his left ankle  after leaving the Dallas Cowboys’ 20-15 victory over the New York Giants due to an injury with 3:30 remaining in the game.

“I just iced it for now,” Parsons said, sitting at his locker with his left ankle wrapped. “I don’t know much yet. I have an MRI, and I’m hoping to return next week.”

Parsons noted that X-rays taken at MetLife Stadium came back negative. DeMarcus Lawrence also sustained a right foot injury in the third quarter and did not return. However, he mentioned after the game that he was fine and that his injury was not connected to previous foot surgeries. He will also have an MRI on Friday.

Parsons was injured while rushing the passer from the center position, becoming entangled with center John Michael Schmitz Jr. when guard Greg Van Roten fell onto the back of his leg. Medical staff attended to him before he limped off to the sideline, and he was later transported by cart for X-rays.After the game, he used a golf cart to reach the team bus.

“He’s an incredible player and a big-time playmaker,” said quarterback Dak Prescott. “I didn’t see much, but he made a crucial run stop during one of the last possessions. Honestly, I’m just hoping it’s nothing serious. I try to keep my mind clear of doubts or negative thoughts, so I didn’t want to think anything major. I hope I’m right and that it’s just a minor issue. He seemed to be in good spirits, so I feel good too. We’re all feeling positive.”

The Cowboys were generally in good spirits as they approached Thursday’s game. They had just lost two consecutive home games to the New Orleans Saints and Baltimore Ravens, during which their defense allowed a combined total of 464 rushing yards.

In contrast, the Giants struggled with their running game, managing only 26 yards on 24 carries. However, Daniel Jones passed for 281 yards, and rookie receiver Malik Nabers recorded 115 yards on 12 catches before leaving the game due to a concussion.

Prescott connected for two touchdown passes in the first half—one to CeeDee Lamb and the other to Rico Dowdle—while Brandon Aubrey successfully made two of three field goal attempts, including a 60-yarder for the second consecutive game.

“Winning is always fantastic, especially on the road,” said coach Mike McCarthy. “Road victories are the best. When it’s a division game, it adds another layer of significance. We feel great about what we’ve accomplished, but I think it’s the fourth week in a row we’ve recognized that we have a lot of work ahead of us.”

The Cowboys will enjoy a 10-day break before facing the Pittsburgh Steelers on October 6, which may help Parsons’ recovery depending on the MRI results.

For Prescott, this marked his 13th consecutive win against the Giants, tying him for the second-longest winning streak by a quarterback against a single opponent.

He understands the significance of the difference between a 2-2 record and a 1-3 record.

“It’s huge, especially when you consider the alternative. What it would have been like is significant,” Prescott noted. “This win allows us to build momentum. I’ve been on various teams, and when you start to gain traction, it can really take off. That’s what we aim for. In this league, it’s all about getting hot at the right time and building. That’s why I emphasize the importance of the process—trusting it, regardless of the results.”
