The Colorado Avalanche has extended one of their big stars contract for an additional six years. He was on track for a career-best season last year before a season-ending hip injury sidelined him. He has since proven to be an essential player for the Avalanche, particularly on the third line and penalty kill, where his strong forechecking skills have shone. The new deal is valued at an average of $2.5 million per year.
He played three standout years with the University of Denver Pioneers, winning a national championship in 2017. That summer, he impressed the Colorado Avalanche during their development camp, earning himself a contract and deciding to forgo his senior season with the Pioneers.
He spent most of his rookie season with the Colorado Eagles, where he posted 42 points in 64 AHL games. His strong performance earned him five NHL appearances that season, putting him in contention for a regular roster spot with the Avalanche the following year.
In his sophomore season (2019–20), Logan O’Connor played 16 games with the Avalanche, scoring his first NHL goal and finishing with two goals that season. He continued to excel with the Colorado Eagles, tallying 25 points in just 40 AHL games. By the 2020–21 season, O’Connor became a permanent part of the Avalanche roster and has remained a key player ever since. He has now played in 220 NHL games, contributing 34 points to his career total. O’Connor also won the Stanley Cup in 2022, when the Avalanche defeated the Tampa Bay Lightning in six games.
Logan O’Connor has made it clear he loves being part of the Colorado Avalanche, signing his third contract with the team. His hard work and determination have turned him into a fan favorite and a key piece of the roster. Despite not being drafted, the former Denver Pioneer earned his place through grit and perseverance. As head coach Jared Bednar put it, “You want a spot, you earn it,” and O’Connor has certainly lived up to that mantra.
