Breaking News: Kings Lands Big Signing For Another Top Star

The Sacramento Kings revealed that they have reached an agreement on an Exhibit 10 deal with a highly experienced star. For those who may not be familiar, an Exhibit 10 deal is “a one-year, minimum salary contract that is not guaranteed” (according to Yahoo Sports).

He played in four games last season with the Dallas Mavericks as part of a Two-Way contract. In the G League, he averaged 9.8 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 1.4 assists over 26.8 minutes while with the Texas Legends and Cleveland Charge.

Prior to his professional career, he spent five years playing college basketball—four years at Wichita State and one year at Texas A&M.

Dexter Dennis

Why the Dexter Dennis signing Might Not Be Best For The Team

He’s a solid player, and I believe he can make a valuable contribution to the team relative to his salary. Moreover, at this stage of the offseason, major signings are hard to come by.

However, the signing feels underwhelming considering the other names that have been floated as potential additions to the team. At just 24 years old, Dennis has the potential to develop into a rotation-level player, but he has only played four NBA games thus far.

In recent weeks, the Kings have brought in players like Isaiah Thomas, Jae Crowder, TJ Warren, and Nassir Little for workouts. All of these athletes are established role players or former stars, especially in Thomas’s case.

Additionally, it’s worth noting that at 6’5″, Dennis doesn’t quite fit the size the Kings need right now. They are looking for more size in their roster, so the decision to sign a player who isn’t a big wing or forward may not make immediate sense.

Given the names previously mentioned, one might expect the next signing to be someone with a more extensive NBA resume. While this doesn’t rule out the Kings from offering camp deals to any of those players (except for Little, who has signed with the Miami Heat), it does mean they will need to create even more roster space to accommodate them.
