Mets super star left the game in the seventh inning due to back spasms while running the bases, returned to the starting lineup on Sunday after missing only part of one game. However, he suffered a right hamstring cramp late in the game, leading manager Carlos Mendoza to replace him with Luis Torrens in the eighth inning.
After the game, he downplayed the severity of his injury, expressing his intention to be back in the lineup for s doubleheader against the Braves. “I’m feeling really good,” Alvarez stated, “and I’m ready for tomorrow.”
It has been a challenging few days for Alvarez, who initially feared he might be done for the season after his back injury on Friday. He pinch-hit the following night and went 2-for-3 with two RBIs on Sunday before his early exit.
“When that happened, I didn’t think I could play more this year,” Alvarez said regarding his back spasms. “But I feel way better.”
