The Dallas Cowboys are facing significant struggles, and the tension that was palpable around the organization before the season has only intensified recently.
While wide receiver CeeDee Lamb and quarterback Dak Prescott have secured their lucrative contract extensions, the rest of the roster still has glaring weaknesses. As a result, there are no guarantees for victories this season.
The Dallas Cowboys will visit the New York Giants to kick off NFL Week 4, but cornerback Caelen Carson and safety Markquese Bell are listed as doubtful for “Thursday Night Football” after not practicing this week, according to Jon Machota of The Athletic.
Carson has started all three of Dallas’ games this season while DaRon Bland recovers from a foot injury, recording two passes defended and 15 total tackles (14 solo). Meanwhile, Bell has seen limited action, playing just nine defensive snaps and primarily contributing on special teams.
Currently, the defense is the Cowboys’ biggest weakness. They rank 30th in points allowed and last in rushing yards, rushing touchdowns, and yards per rush attempt given up.
In a 28-25 loss to the Baltimore Ravens in Week 3, the Cowboys surrendered a staggering 274 rushing yards, allowing Derrick Henry to rack up 151 yards and two touchdowns on 25 carries.
On offense, Dallas managed only 51 rushing yards, ranking 30th in rushing yards and 29th in yards per rush attempt. Despite bringing back Ezekiel Elliott, their former workhorse running back, he has clearly declined, totaling just 62 yards on 19 carries across three games.
