Good and Bad News: Huskies Coach Fisch Gives Unexpected Injury Update

The injury update for UW is a mix of good and bad. On the positive side, Coach Fisch announced that starting edge rusher Zach Durfee is likely to return from the lower leg injury that kept him out of the win over Northwestern. Senior linebacker Drew Fowler, who missed UW’s last three games due to a similar injury, is also expected to return soon.

However, UW will still be without key players like safety Makell Esteen, who is recovering from a significant bruise that caused him to miss Saturday’s game. Tight end Quentin Moore, out for the last three games with a leg injury from the season opener, is expected to miss Friday’s game but may return for the October 5 matchup against Michigan, along with Esteen.

Other players, like receiver Kevin Green Jr. and tight end Ryan Otton, remain sidelined for a longer period. Despite leaving Saturday’s game in the fourth quarter with an injury, left tackle Maximus McCree, who started in place of Soane Faasolo, is expected to be fully active in practice this week.

UW’s freshman linebacker recorded his first career interception and three tackles in the game against Northwestern. As a result of his performance, he was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week on Monday.

House, a three-star recruit from St. John Bosco in Bellflower, California, initially committed to former UW coach Kalen DeBoer. After DeBoer moved to Alabama, House was one of several players in UW’s 2024 recruiting class who entered the transfer portal but ultimately chose to remain and play for Coach Fisch.

Even with experienced linebackers like seniors Carson Bruener, Alphonzo Tuputala, Fowler, and San Jose State transfer Bryun Parham on the roster, House stood out during spring practices and earned his first career start against Washington State. Defensive coordinator Steve Belichick has noted House’s speed and versatility.

“Khmori has done an excellent job adapting to the system,” Fisch stated, highlighting the support he has received from Bruener and Tuputala in the film room. “What distinguishes him is his relentless effort and dedication in practice. He gives 100% every time he’s on the field.”
