Tony Mowbray issues strong Sunderland message after third straight defeat at Leicester City

Tony Mowbray has weighed in on Sunderland’s defeat to Leicester City.

Tony Mowbray insisted that if Sunderland can reproduce their effort against Leicester City on Tuesday night, they will rapidly reverse their bad run of results.

The Black Cats were defeated 1-0 as James Justin was allowed to head home from a corner within the opening ten minutes.

Mowbray’s team owed two brilliant stops to Anthony Patterson at the opening of the second half, while Leicester also hit the post twice. Sunderland, on the other hand, generated a number of good chances of their own and could have equalized late on when Abdoullah Ba blasted over the bar from close range.

“It’s not really a concern; if that’s the level we play at every week, we’ll win enough games.”

“We should emphasize our team’s energy, the problems we caused the opposition, and the opportunities we were able to create; we just need to improve the end product.”

“Because we’re a small team, we focused a lot on defending set pieces because we knew there would be issues today.” We knew they had five physically stronger players, but we only had four markers because we chose to go zonal in the six-yard box, and we were done by someone running across one of the zonal guys.

“For the second game in a row, a free header has cost us points, which is frustrating.” But, as I just told them, if we keep performing at that level, the results will take care of themselves. Burnley had 19 points after 11 games last season, so don’t be concerned about Leicester. We’re not going to finish ahead of them, so let’s be good at what we do and keep improving.
