Breaking News: Red Wings Signs Another Highly Experienced Star

The Detroit Red Wings secured their star defenseman, signing him to a seven-year contract valued at just under $60 million. The deal carries an average annual value (AAV) of $8.55 million, slightly lower than captain Dylan Larkin’s $8.7 million AAV from his eight-year contract signed in March 2023.

The top defenseman, 23, has emerged as Detroit’s top defenseman over his first three NHL seasons, during which he hasn’t missed a single game, appearing in all 246 contests. He plays the most minutes, often matched against the opposition’s best players, and excels in all situations. In 2022, he was awarded the Calder Trophy as the NHL’s top rookie.

Although he missed the first day of training camp on Thursday in Traverse City, his teammates were thrilled about the news of his signing.

“Great news with Lucas Raymond signing and now Mo signing,” said Patrick Kane. “Everyone’s relieved it’s done. Both of them are so deserving of their new contracts. They work hard and want to be Red Wings. They want to do well for the city and the organization. Happy for both guys and for the team.”

Kane added, “Mo’s an excellent defender. He’s key to shutting down top lines every night. He also has offensive tools, can be dynamic on the power play, and produce from the back end, which is huge.”

Seider, who finished last season with nine goals and 33 assists, reflected on his performance, calling it “all right,” but expressed optimism for continued growth. “There’s always more to improve on. I’m happy with where I’m at, but there’s a lot more to my game that will develop over the next few years. I’m focused on taking another step forward next season.”
