Michael Appleton confirms Charlton have suffered fresh injury concern for striker

Charlton Athletic’s forward, Chuks Aneke, is scheduled to undergo a hamstring scan today following his premature departure from the match against Reading, according to a statement by Michael Appleton. In recent weeks, Charlton Athletic has seen Aneke’s return to the team.

He initially made substitute appearances, and he earned his first starting position in the victory against Exeter City, with his second start occurring over the weekend against Reading, where he even scored in their 4-0 win over the Royals.

However, he had to leave the game shortly after the one-hour mark, causing immediate concern due to his history of injuries. In anticipation of the midweek match against Lincoln City, former Lincoln City manager Appleton has provided an early update on Aneke’s condition.

According to the club’s official website, Appleton mentioned that Aneke is set to undergo a scan today, and further details about the injury will be known afterward. Fortunately, Aneke’s spirits remain relatively high, but a definitive assessment of the seriousness of the injury has not been made at this time.

He said:

“We’ll know a little bit more tomorrow. I believe he is being scanned tomorrow.

“Once we get the results back from the scan we’ll have a little bit of a better idea. He seems to be in reasonable spirits considering I know he’s got a little bit of a history with his hamstring. I think it’s one where we don’t want to get too far ahead of ourselves and second guess anything until we get the results.”

Fingers crossed

Aneke has previously demonstrated his value to Charlton Athletic, and with a goal and an assist in his last two games, it is hoped he can return to his dangerous best under Appleton. However, considering his history of ailments, the Addicks will know they should err on the side of caution when it comes to his fitness.

Aneke has 55 goals and 27 assists in 195 League One outings and 25 goals in 97 appearances at The Valley. Keeping him fit could be crucial to their success this season, so they’ll have to tread carefully.

Charlton Athletic are still unbeaten in all competitions under Appleton’s guidance, having won four and drawn three.
They’ll be keen to keep that run going against Lincoln tonight as they look to move up from 10th in the League One table.
