South Carolina coach Paul and his staff landed a significant catch as infielder has committed to the Gamecocks.
A class of 2026 prospect from Lakeland, Florida, has predominantly played shortstop, second base, and third base in high school. Byrd, a high school junior who throws and hits from the right side, will join the South Carolina baseball program following another two years of high school growth.
As a player, the young infielder possesses the necessary athleticism and slick glove to play middle infield at the next level, as well as the type of physique that might allow him to gain the size and weight required to become a power-hitting corner infielder. His strong arm has improved significantly over the last year or two, and his sprint speed on the bases is also developing, making him a potential weapon as a man who can steal bases or take additional ones while the ball is in play.
Byrd has the potential to be a very productive bat in college, and the future Gamecock has several positive attributes at the plate. On film, he has a clean stroke with quick hands, and even on swings that aren’t his finest, he manages to get the barrel on the ball. With his stature and mobility, his ability to find the barrel will lead to future power potential.
South Carolina currently has six players committed for the 2026 cycle, with Byrd being the third from outside the state. He joins recent pitching commitments Aaron Dierks and Walker Cox, as well as prospects Jackson Robinson, Parker McGee, and Cameron Jackson, in the class.
He is one of three infielders in the ’26 class, along McGee and Jackson.
