Nebraska head coach Matt Rhule discusses the status of senior guard Micah Mazzccua.
Nebraska senior guard Micah Mazzccua will not play against Illinois, Nebraska head coach Matt Rhule announced Monday.
Mazzccua did not play against Northern Iowa, although he was ranked as the No. 2 right guard behind Henry Lutovsky on Monday’s depth chart.
“He won’t play this week,” Rhule explained. “He’s on the team, he’s practicing with us, he’s just working through some stuff right now.”
With Mazzccua out, Nebraska will rely on Lutovksy, who started Saturday’s triumph over Northern Iowa, his sixth start in the program.
“If you go back to Colorado, we put Henry in the fourth quarter, and he played it. Henry is a guy we earmarked as a starter at the start of the season, and Micah and Justin (Evans) did an excellent job for us in the first game, but Henry is now healthy.”

Nebraska depth chart for Illinois week
A couple alterations were made to Nebraska’s depth chart during Illinois week.
Nebraska changed some offensive guard roles, with Henry Lutovksy being designated as the starter at right guard instead of Micah Mazzccua. Lutovsky began last week after Mazzccua was benched for what Matt Rhule described as a “coach’s decision.” Tyler Knaak is now listed as the backup at left guard.
Another offensive adjustment came at the slot wide receiver position. Carter Nelson, a freshman, is now labeled as the No. 2 slot wide receiver behind Janiran Bonner. Nelson scored his first career touchdown against Northern Iowa.
Here’s a quick look at how the Illinois week depth chart played out.
