South Carolina quarterback LaNorris Sellers, who rushed for two touchdowns, left with an ankle injury just before
halftime and was restricted to one second-half series in Saturday’s loss to No. 16 LSU.
Bradyn Swinson sacked Sellers on the next to last play of the half, and he limped into the locker room. Robby Ashford, Auburn’s backup and former starting quarterback, took over on the final play.
Ashford remained in the game for South Carolina’s first series in the second half.
Sellers returned for a three-and-out series in the third quarter before retiring permanently.
Sellers had a good first half. He scored scoring runs of 4 and 75 yards, the second-longest by a Gamecock quarterback in history, and threw for 112 yards as South Carolina led the Tigers 24–16.
“He has an ankle strain. “I believe he will be fine,” Gamecocks coach Shane Beamer said after the 36-33 loss.
Sellers completed 9-of-16 passes for 113 yards. He sprinted 88 yards.
Sellers stated he felt his ankle being rolled on. He mentioned he had trouble adjusting to the bandage on his ankle. Sellers did not believe it was severe and anticipated to be OK moving forward.
