Bruins captain Brad Marchand attended the Bruins Foundation’s annual tournament at Pinehills Golf Club in golf attire, but he wasn’t participating with the current and former players on the course.
Earlier this month, Marchand disclosed that he had undergone three offseason surgeries and was uncertain about his readiness for the training camp, which starts next week. His rehabilitation currently does not involve any golf activities.
Marchand remains optimistic about being on the ice when camp begins. Players are scheduled for physicals on Wednesday and will hit the ice on Thursday. He mentioned that if he misses the first practice, he’ll quickly catch up.
“I feel good and am improving every day. If I miss the start of camp, it will only be the first couple of days,” Marchand said. “Everything is progressing faster than expected. My main concern was how my arm would recover, but I’m already shooting and passing. I skated with the team for the first time on Thursday. I still need to work on my conditioning, but overall, I’m making good progress.”
When asked about his availability for the Bruins’ season opener against Florida on October 8, Marchand responded confidently.
“I’d be very surprised if I wasn’t ready for opening night,” he said. “While I can’t fully gauge until I’m in a battle situation, everything is progressing well, so I should be set for the season.”
Marchand, who turned 36 in May, had surgery for a torn elbow tendon, a groin issue, and an abdominal procedure to address a sports hernia.
Bruins coach Jim Montgomery, who was away attending the funerals of Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau, did not have specific updates on other players’ conditions. He noted, however, that from what he had heard, Marchand appears to be on track to be ready for the start of the season, which is the most important factor for a player like him.
