On Saturday, Shane Beamer’s South Carolina football team destroyed the Kentucky Wildcats in Lexington thanks to a great defensive effort.
Nick Emmanwori, a safety, was one of the Gamecocks’ most impressive performers in the victory. The junior defensive back led USC with 7 tackles and baited UK quarterback Brock Vandagriff into an interception. After picking off the pass, Emmanwori sprinted through the Kentucky offensive players’ tackle attempts and crossed the goal line for his first career pick-6.
Nick Emmanwori was named to Pro Football Focus’ National Team of the Week in recognition of his performance. Emmanwori was one of two safeties selected for the team, along with Southern Miss Golden Eagles senior Dylan Lawrence.
Carolina freshman EDGE Dylan Stewart was named to PFF’s Team of the Week and National Defensive Player of the Week after the Gamecocks defeated the Old Dominion Monarchs last week.
Emmanwori, a Columbia native, is one of the nation’s top NFL Draft prospects at safety. He was a Freshman All-American in 2022 and might get an All-SEC position if he continues to perform well this autumn.
Emmanwori is now second on the team in tackles (behind only linebacker Debo Williams) and one of three Gamecocks with an interception this season.
Emmanwori did not have any interceptions for most of his career, but that has changed, as he now has three interceptions in his previous four games.
Emmanwori’s South Carolina football team faces the LSU Tigers at home on Saturday. College GameDay will return to town for the first time since 2014, and the Gamecocks will aim to improve to 3-0 on the 2024 season in front of a sellout crowd at Williams-Brice Stadium. GameDay coverage will begin at 9:00 a.m. ET (on ESPN, ESPNU, and the ESPN app), with kickoff at Noon ET, televised on ABC and streamed on ESPN Plus and the ESPN app.
