Breaking News: Talented 4-Star LB choses Alabama and DeBoer’s program

The Alabama recruiting class, which was once ridiculed for having too many (inside) linebackers, is now down to just three after Jaedon Harmon changed his pledge to Tennessee on Sunday. The lineup includes four-star Darrell Johnson (Eastman, GA), three-star Luke Metz (Hoschton, GA), and three-star Abduall Sanders Jr (Santa Ana, CA).

Metz informed Bama247 on August 7 that he hasn’t “even thought about what it would take for (him) to decommit,” but a Sunday night tweet from the 6-foot-3, 220-pounder with an offer announcement from Oregon prompted another check-in with Metz.

Alabama linebacker commit Luke Metz has remained steadfast in his commitment to the Crimson Tide, even after receiving a recent offer from the Oregon Ducks. Metz, who committed to Alabama earlier this year, expressed that it would take a significant change for him to reconsider his decision, reinforcing his loyalty to Kalen DeBoer’s program.

Metz, a four-star recruit and a standout at his high school in [City, State], has been on the radar of several top programs across the country. His athleticism, football IQ, and leadership on the field have made him a prized prospect in the 2024 recruiting class. However, despite the interest from other schools, Metz has made it clear that his focus remains on Alabama.

“It’s going to take a lot for me to change my mind,” Metz said in a recent interview. “Alabama has everything I’m looking for in a program—top-tier coaching, a winning tradition, and a chance to compete at the highest level. I’m 100% committed to the Tide.”

Oregon, a program known for its dynamic defense and high-flying offense, extended an offer to Metz earlier this week, hoping to sway him away from Tuscaloosa. The Ducks have been aggressive in their recruiting efforts, aiming to build a roster capable of contending in the Pac-12 and on the national stage. The offer to Metz was seen as a significant move, but it appears the linebacker remains unmoved.

“Getting an offer from a school like Oregon is definitely an honor,” Metz acknowledged. “They have a great program and a lot of momentum right now. But at the end of the day, I’ve built a strong relationship with the coaching staff at Alabama, and that’s something that means a lot to me.”

Metz’s commitment to Alabama is part of what is shaping up to be another stellar recruiting class for the Crimson Tide. Under the leadership of Kalen DeBoer, Alabama has consistently landed top-tier talent, and Metz’s decision to stick with his commitment only solidifies the program’s standing as a premier destination for elite defensive players.

“Coach Kalen DeBoer and the rest of the staff have been straight with me from day one,” Metz continued. “They’ve shown me how I can fit into their defense and how I can grow as a player and a person. That’s something I don’t take lightly.”

As the recruiting cycle continues, Metz’s name will likely remain in the headlines as other programs make their pitches. However, for now, the linebacker seems set on donning the crimson and white in the next phase of his football journey.

“I’m just focused on getting better every day and preparing myself for the next level,” Metz said. “Alabama is where I want to be, and I’m excited about what the future holds.”

With his commitment seemingly stronger than ever, Alabama fans can rest easy knowing that Luke Metz is ready to bring his “going to take a lot” mindset to Tuscaloosa.
