Breaking: Dodgers Confirm Unexpected Setback As Star Suffers Devastating Injury

AM 570-AM reports that LA Dodgers catcher has a fracture in his left big toe.
The Dodgers veteran will be placed on the disabled list, and Hunter Feduccia will be summoned from Triple-A for the second time this season, Dodgers Nation reported early Monday.

Barnes, the seasoned backup catcher, suffered a serious injury. He’s batting.241 with a.318 on-base percentage and.284 slugging percentage as Will Smith’s backup.

According to AM-570’s David Vassegh, Barnes was aware of the injury throughout Sunday’s game against the St. Louis Cardinals, when he began and caught Clayton Kershaw’s six scoreless innings in the series finale. The Dodgers won the game 2-1.

Barnes, 34, has a career.221 batting average across portions of ten major league seasons (2015-24), all with the Dodgers.

Feduccia, 27, had one at-bat in his only previous appearance with the Dodgers, on July 31 against the Seattle Mariners. This season, he is hitting.282/.415/.433 for Triple-A Oklahoma City, with six home runs and 46 RBIs in 73 games.

Prior to the Dodgers’ 7:10 p.m. game against the Seattle Mariners, Barnes is anticipated to be placed on the injured list and Feduccia formally recalled.

Tommy Edman, who the Dodgers acquired from the St. Louis Cardinals at the trade deadline, is also likely to be activated from the injured list ahead of the game. Edman is on the 60-day injured list, so the Dodgers will need to make a 40-man roster move to accommodate his return.

On July 30, the Dodgers acquired Edman in a three-team deal with the Chicago White Sox and St. Louis Cardinals.

The same is true for Max Muncy, the veteran third baseman who has been out by an oblique injury since May.
