The Miami Hurricanes secured a significant commitment from a local, ball-hawking safety. Miami Columbus’ Bryce Fitzgerald, a four-star talent according to the 247Sports composite ranking, verbally committed to the local Hurricanes on Saturday night, beating out Florida, Florida State, and LSU.
Fitzgerald revealed the decision via Instagram Live. Fitzgerald is regarded as the No. 12 safety in the class, the No. 21 prospect in Florida, and the No. 130 prospect nationwide, regardless of position.
Fitzgerald had a successful junior season in Columbus after moving from Belen Jesuit. He made an astounding ten interceptions (five of which came in the playoffs) to help the Explorers capture their second consecutive state football championship. He also plays an important role off the bench for the Explorers, who have won three state championships.
The Hurricanes’ 2025 recruiting class already has 22 commits, including ten blue-chip talents (four- or five-star recruits).
Eight of the 22 players have committed in the last two months, including Las Vegas Bishop Gorman offensive lineman Seuseu Alofaituli, Bradenton IMG Academy linebacker Gavin Nix, Jacksonville Mandarin athlete Hylton Stubbs, New Iberia (Louisiana) Westgate cornerback Jaboree Antoine, Phenix City (Alabama) Central wide receiver Daylyn Upshaw, Chaminade-Madonna defensive lineman Donta Simpson, and Newberry edge rusher Mykah Newton.
Fitzgerald is Miami’s first safety in the 2025 class, but they also have four cornerbacks in Antoine, Miami Central’s Amari Wallace, Hollywood Chaminade-Madonna’s Chris Ewald, and Birmingham (Alabama) Parker’s Tim Merrit.
