Auburn football’s recruiting class of 2025 has had some ups and downs, with large commitments and a number of decommitments. Tight end Hollis Davidson committed and uncommitted to Auburn before eventually committing on July 4, and the Tigers are now looking to get another recruit back in.
Tyler Lockhart, a four-star linebacker, committed to Auburn football in early May but decided to reopen his recruitment after an official visit to in-state school Mississippi State at the end of June. Despite pulling back his vow to the Tigers, Lockhart appears to still be interested, as he has confirmed his appearance at Big Cat Weekend. Payton Thorne talks about reuniting with high school teammate Sam Jackson V
Payton Thorne and Sam Jackson V were high school teammates, but they have remained close throughout their collegiate careers. Jackson played quarterback for Cal last season, and the two competed on the west coast. This season, Jackson is a wide receiver for the Auburn football team and will be Thorne’s target on the field.
While the wide receivers’ connection with Thorne is increasing as skill grows, it is also improving as Thorne and Jackson get more familiar.
“He’ll be a best friend of mine for the rest of my life,” Thorne told Auburn Athletics of Jackson. “He is my roommate. An amazing guy with a wonderful heart and a strong desire to win. He urgently wants to win. I’m overjoyed that he’s here, and I’ll have the opportunity to toss him the ball this year.”
