Breaking News: Dallas Cowboys star announces surprise retirement

Michael Gallup, a former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver, will retire from the NFL at the age of 28.

Gallup signed a one-year contract with the Las Vegas Raiders earlier this summer. On Tuesday, the Raiders apparently put him on the reserve/retired list. The change is anticipated to be made official on Wednesday.

The Cowboys chose Gallup in the third round of the 2018 NFL Draft. He played all six seasons of his NFL career in Dallas.

The Colorado State product had his most productive season in 2019. Gallup finished second on the team behind 5-time Pro Bowler Amari Cooper in targets (113), catches (66), receiving yards (1,107), and receiving touchdowns (6).

Gallup was targeted just 57 times last year and had 418 receiving yards, both career lows despite appearing in all 17 regular-season games.

Gallup had a torn ACL during the 2021 season, which was a big setback for his career. The Cowboys continued to pay Gallup generously the following offseason, but the injury has significantly restricted his explosiveness on the field.

Gallup finished his career with 266 receptions for 3,744 yards and 21 touchdowns.
