Breaking News: ECU Transfer Reveals Commitment Move to Rivals

Florida was eager to add a left-handed pitcher to its transfer class after losing LHPs Cade Fisher and Robert Satin this offseason. Laurito has the potential to join the Gators’ bullpen as early as 2025, but the transfer pitcher has three years of eligibility remaining and is draft eligible in two.

Laurito joins Clemson’s Billy Barlow and Sante Fe’s Matthew Jenkins as transfer pitchers this offseason.

I’m always curious about how these portal moves actually work, and in this case, Makarewicz wasn’t pushed to the gateway by the State or anyone else; he was simply eager to try something new after going undrafted.

During the lengthy talk, he states that he wants to play in a higher conference, most likely to test himself and maybe gain more attention from scouts. (He also names Kentucky, UCF, Arizona, and Florida as additional schools he spoke with.) Ultimately, the ability to do so while simultaneously remaining close to Greenville helped NC State land him.

You can view the entire interview below. The transfer topic begins at the 20-minute mark.
