Breaking: MLB Insider reveals Yankees-Tigers trade for Tarik Skubal includes Spencer Jones…

The Yankees are willing to trade Spencer Jones for Tarik Skubal, which opens the door to a possible blockbuster deal.
For the most period this season, the Detroit Tigers refused to entertain any trade offers for their Cy Young candidate ace, Tarik Skubal.

However, when teams such as the Baltimore Orioles, New York Yankees, and Los Angeles Dodgers expressed genuine interest in obtaining Skubal, the Tigers were willing to listen. However, select Tigers players were necessary to initiate any of these chats.

It was Spencer Jones, the Yankees’ second-best prospect. New York initially refused to include Jones in any trade, but as the days have passed, MLB insider Bob Nightengale reports that they’ve had a change of mind.

“The Yankees, for the first time, are willing to include No. 1 prospect Spencer Jones in a trade for White Sox ace Garrett Crochet or Tigers Cy Young candidate Tarik Skubal,” Nightengale stated in an email.

While Jones would only be the beginning of a potential Tarik Skubal trade, it is the necessary step for the Yankees to get the ball rolling.

Skubal, 27, has pitched like the league’s greatest pitcher this season. He has an ERA of 2.41 and a WHIP well under 1.00. Skubal ranks among the league’s top performers in practically every statistic on his Baseball Savant chart.

Acquiring him would entail paying for the most expensive player on the market, as he comes with several more years of team control and the potential to win several Cy Young accolades.

A trade for Skubal begins with Jones and concludes with three more of the Yankees’ top ten prospects.

Jones and Lombard Jr. are two of the Yankees’ top position players in their minor system. Jones is hitting.237/.317/.403 on the season, including double-digit doubles and homers. Lombard, 19, is batting.231/.351/.345 in Low-A as a teenager. His potential is great, yet he is still very young.

Hampton and Selvidge are among New York’s top pitching prospects. Hampton has a 3.65 ERA over 116 professional innings. He has demonstrated an electrifying arsenal with mediocre command. Selvidge, a lefty, has demonstrated multiple good pitches and above-average command. He has a 4.25 ERA after 16 starts this season.

If there is any chance for the Yankees to get Skubal, they should go for it. Skubal is a generational talent who does not come around very frequently. He could be the missing element that takes the Yankees to the next level.
