Breaking: MLB insider gives surprising update on Yankees’ trade for All-Star Garrett Crochet

The New York Yankees do not appear to be among the teams interested in acquiring Chicago White Sox pitcher Garrett Crochet before the MLB trade deadline in 2024.

In the second half, the Yankees will face stiff competition in the American League East. They’re one of MLB’s greatest teams, but they’re stuck in the same division with the brilliant Baltimore Orioles. They must improve, and getting starting pitching is reported to be a top focus for the front staff.

Over the next few weeks, the trade market will see a number of fascinating choices. Garrett Crochet, the White Sox All-Star, appears to be the most popular player. The kid has taken the league by storm in 2024 and is set to be relocated. He doesn’t seem interested in signing a contract extension with Chicago.

In recent weeks, a number of contending teams, notably New York, have been tied to strikeout machines. However, on Thursday, New York Post MLB insider Jon Heyman speculated that the Yankees’ reported interest may have been exaggerated.

Garrett Crochet stats (2024): 6-6 record, 3.02 ERA, 1.104 WHIP, 150 SO, 23 BB, 107.1 innings.

“[Crochet’s] been linked to the Dodgers, Padres, Orioles, and Yankees, but one person said the Yankees ‘are not that into’ him,” wrote Heyman in his piece.

Crochet is under team control for another two seasons, but some teams, including the Yankees, may be leery. He has already surpassed his previous season high in innings pitched, and he could be shifted to the bullpen for the remainder of the season in 2024.

Nonetheless, he has the potential to become an ace in the coming years. According to reports, Chicago is insisting that top New York Yankees prospect Spencer Jones be included in any trade.
