It’s been a busy week for Washington Huskies football as the coaching staff makes waves in the transfer portal, securing critical roster reinforcements. So far, the Huskies have bolstered their lineup with additions at defensive tackle, linebacker, and offensive line, addressing some major needs for the upcoming 2025 season. But the recruiting frenzy is far from over, with visits still underway and several high-profile prospects catching the Huskies’ attention.
One standout name is Johntay Cook, a highly-touted wide receiver transferring from Texas. Cook visited Seattle earlier this week as the Huskies aim to add another experienced playmaker to pair with rising star Denzel Boston. A former top-100 recruit in the 2023 class, Cook brings a dynamic edge, having recorded 8 receptions for 137 yards and 2 touchdowns last season. With veterans Giles Jackson and Jeremiah Hunter moving on, the Huskies’ receiving corps is relatively young, making Cook’s potential addition a strategic move to solidify the group.
On the defensive side, Tacario Davis, a cornerback from Arizona, is another name generating buzz. Currently ranked as the #1 cornerback in the transfer portal by 247Sports, Davis is weighing his options between entering the NFL Draft or playing another season in college, with Washington and Arizona as his likely destinations. Adding Davis would be a game-changer for the Huskies, especially with Ephesians Prysock as the only returning veteran cornerback. Davis’ talent and experience could instantly elevate the defensive backfield, which is otherwise leaning heavily on younger players.
With a few more days of visits before the recruiting calendar enters a quiet period, the Huskies’ coaching staff is working diligently to finalize their roster upgrades. Stay tuned for updates as commitments roll in, and be sure to follow @asieverkropp for the latest recruiting news. Next week, we’ll shift focus to the 2026 recruiting class and what lies ahead for the future of Husky football!
