Virginia Tech Football Land 3 More Commitments Adding Experience & Depth For 2025

The Hokies’ transfer portal commitments are flowing quickly on Friday.

After a slow start with the transfer portal, Virginia Tech football coach Brent Pry is seeing results quickly. The portal officially opened on December 9, and while a handful of Hokies have enrolled and committed to other schools, Tech commitments have taken longer.

The first occurred Wednesday night, when Clemson safety Sherrod Covil, Jr. committed to the Hokies, bringing the Virginia native home for his last season of eligibility. Sometimes things happen quickly, as was the case on Friday. After Bowling Green running back Terion Stewart committed early in the day, the commitments arrived in quick succession.

What I am hearing: Virginia Tech's pursuit of Hampton transfer DL Jahzari Priester

Following Stewart’s commitment, Pry secured two commitments, one on each side of the ball, to cover two needs for the Hokies in 2025. Hampton defensive tackle Jahzari Priester committed Friday afternoon, and Central Missouri running back Marcellous Hawkins followed suit shortly after.

The 6-foot-6, 294-pound Priester has three years of eligibility remaining, but he will be a work in progress for the Hokies. He did not begin playing football until his final year of high school, and this season he appeared in 11 games for the Pirates, including one start and 168 snaps. He gives depth to the defensive tackle position, although he’s still developing.

Hawkins appeared in three games for Central Missouri this season, but by 2023, the Oklahoma native had just over 1,000 yards rushing on 157 runs and 18 touchdowns. He averaged 6.7 yards per rush and, like Stewart, provides some experience to the running back room in 2025.
