Kansas State has secured a commitment from Purdue transfer wide receiver, addressing a significant need at the position following the departure of multiple receivers to the transfer portal and graduation after the 2024 regular season.
Tibbs, a 6-foot-3, 214-pound receiver from Indianapolis, spent two seasons with the Boilermakers. In his sophomore year, he led Purdue’s receiving corps with 25 receptions for 305 yards and two touchdowns, averaging over 12 yards per catch. His standout performance came in a late-season game against Michigan State, where he recorded four catches for 73 yards.
Despite Purdue’s offensive struggles, culminating in a 1-11 season, Tibbs emerged as a reliable target. Upon entering the transfer portal, he attracted interest from several Power Four programs, including USC, Arkansas, Rutgers, Georgia Tech, and Minnesota. Ultimately, he chose Kansas State, marking a significant acquisition for head coach Chris Klieman and his staff.
A source familiar with Purdue’s program described Tibbs as an “awesome kid” and a “bigger wide receiver with a good catch radius” who understands how to find openings in defenses. The source also noted his versatility, having learned all three receiver positions, and his contributions on special teams. They emphasized his considerable upside, despite being “just young but played a lot as a sophomore.”
Originally from Indianapolis, Tibbs was ranked as the 95th-best wide receiver in the class of 2023. He initially chose Purdue over Iowa and other programs. Now, joining a Kansas State roster that includes several offensive players from the class of 2023, Tibbs is expected to make an immediate impact. His size and physicality provide the Wildcats with a much-needed outside presence. Known for effectively using his body to secure catches, Tibbs is anticipated to be a red-zone threat and a reliable target over the middle for quarterback Avery Johnson.
While his statistics at Purdue may not fully reflect his potential, largely due to the team’s offensive challenges, Tibbs possesses the talent to be a difference-maker for Kansas State from day one.
