Kansas State Wildcats make mind-blowing changes to football depth chart ahead of Rate Bowl

The Kansas State Wildcats are making significant adjustments to their football depth chart as they prepare to face Rutgers in the Rate Bowl on Dec. 26 in Phoenix. Following an 8-4 regular season, head coach Chris Klieman has restructured the lineup in response to over a dozen players entering the transfer portal and two standout upperclassmen opting to declare for the NFL Draft.

Here’s a closer look at the most notable changes:

Offensive Updates

  • Right Tackle: Redshirt junior Andrew Leingang will make just his second career start, replacing Carver Willis, who transferred to Washington. The 6-foot-6, 303-pound lineman has long been a key reserve and is ready to shine in a starting role.
  • Wide Receiver: Jadon Jackson and Dante Cephas step into starting positions following Keagan Johnson’s departure.
  • Running Back: With DJ Giddens preparing for the NFL Draft, fans will see a tandem of Dylan Edwards and Joe Jackson in the backfield. Jacques Spradley-Demps, who recently joined the depth chart, may also see playing time at wide receiver.

Defensive Adjustments

  • Cornerback: Justice James will start in place of Jacob Parrish, who is also heading to the NFL. James has shown promise this season with 13 tackles and a pass defended. He will join Keenan Garber in the starting lineup, with Zashon Rich and Donovan McIntosh serving as backups.
  • Reserve Roles: Daniel Cobbs is now the backup free safety, Wesley Fair moves up as the No. 2 strong safety, and Tyson Struber takes over as the next option at outside linebacker. Austin Moore is listed at two linebacker positions, showcasing his versatility.

Special Teams Shake-Up

Dylan Edwards is expected to handle punt and kick returns, but K-State’s depth chart also lists Joe Jackson, DeVon Rice, and Bryce Noernberg as potential return specialists. Klieman’s preference for rotating players in this role means fans might see all four contribute during the game.

The Wildcats’ revamped lineup reflects the dynamic nature of modern college football, with Klieman and his staff adapting to roster changes while aiming for success against Rutgers.
