The Georgia Bulldogs navigated the nation’s toughest schedule this season to achieve an impressive 11 wins and claim another SEC Championship. Their path included six ranked matchups, with victories over Clemson, Texas (twice), and Tennessee.
Now positioned as the No. 2 seed in the College Football Playoff, Georgia awaits the winner of the No. 10 Indiana vs. No. 7 Notre Dame matchup. The Bulldogs will face the victor in the quarterfinals at the Sugar Bowl.
Adding to the accolades, head coach Kirby Smart has been named a semifinalist for the George Munger Award, which honors college football’s most outstanding coach. Georgia’s social media team shared the announcement: “Coach Smart has been named a semifinalist for the George Munger Award.”
Kirby Smart continues to solidify his status as one of college football’s elite coaches. In just nine seasons at Georgia, he has guided the Bulldogs to two national championships and four College Football Playoff appearances. It’s no surprise that he’s the highest-paid coach in the sport, earning $13 million annually.
Smart boasts an impressive 105-18 record as Georgia’s head coach. Before taking the helm in Athens, the 48-year-old honed his craft under Nick Saban at Alabama. Starting as an assistant and defensive backs coach in 2007, he served as the Crimson Tide’s defensive coordinator from 2008 to 2015, helping lay the foundation for Alabama’s dynasty.
