Changes are taking place in Blacksburg following another 6-6 season for the Hokies.
With all of the 2023 roster retention, the Hokies program had great hopes for the 2024 season. Things went bad in Week 1 with an overtime loss at Vanderbilt, and things only got worse from there, resulting in a disappointing 6-6 season for the second straight year.
Last week, athletic director Whit Babcock gave head coach Brent Pry a vote of confidence and stated that the two would get down to discuss the program.
After the Hokies defeated Virginia, 37-17, to become bowl-eligible for the second consecutive year, and only a few minutes after welcome the Class of 2025 to Blacksburg, Pry spoke with the media and stated that he hoped to keep his coaching staff intact in 2025. That will not be the case.
Virginia Tech coach Brent Pry parts ways with three coaches
Virginia Tech announced that Pry was firing three coaches: defensive coordinator/linebackers coach Chris Marve, offensive line coach Ron Crook, and senior director of strength and conditioning Dwight Galt IV. In the statement, Pry released the following:
“I admire Coach Marve, Coach Crook, and Coach Galt’s contributions to Virginia Tech football. They are outstanding men who, along with their families, have made significant contributions to our university and student-athletes. However, our on-field performance has not met our expectations. As head coach, it is my obligation to make the necessary reforms to return our program to its due place among college football’s elite and provide the success that Hokie Nation deserves.”

Marve and Galt were on Pry’s first staff in 2022, and Crook joined in 2023, but the season’s results necessitated adjustments. You have to believe that Pry’s seat, along with that of offensive coordinator Tyler Bowen, is becoming more comfortable for the upcoming season.
